question: would you book more online or on the phone
I book online in preference to any other method. There are a few reasons why I do this.
Firstly I am not to concerned if a travel company goes under as I always get travel insurance which covers travel providor insolvency. So while it might disupt my holiday a little it is no biggy.
Second is that I really dislike giving credit card details over the phone. This is an area I believe ideal for people with dishonest intentions to pick up your card number. For many reasons, including. The person taking the card number writes the number on a piece of paper and then takes it to the machine to manually key in (which at least to my understanding in Australia companies with EFTPOS systems are supposed to see the card before processing a transaction). What happens to the paper then in the bin??? Properly destroyed?? you dont know.
Finally it saves time, I spend to much time as it is booking my flights with a TA and waiting while they look them up, and fiddle round getting the right timing and such, then having to go back a second time to pick up the actual e-tickets.

Luxury great vacation ideas for honeymoon
Why this particular selection of hotels/resorts, Justin...? I haven't actually stayed in any of them but am familiar with a few. I know the Adeje area quite well and have stayed in a number of the top hotels there... I'm just curious as to why you pick out Riu Arecas. It's 9th out of 35 hotels in Adeje (not so great) and I'd have thought there were better contenders for honeymooners such as the adults-only El Mirador..

Luxury Ski Holidays
Favorite ski destination is Scotland when the skies are blue, the sun is shining and the runs have been complete for months!!
Favourite European Ski destination is the three valleys off peak when the q's are shorter - I love the fact you can ski for miles and miles and never cross the same run twice!
Most unusual Ski destination - when I skied in the Indian Himalayas in Auli!! Whooo! Amazing fast flitting clouds and stunning giant peaks but unfortunately the ski resort had just opened and had lumps in the runs the size of small cars! I sank 6 feet into powder in the middle of a supposedly pisted run!
I love arranging ski holidays as I can't get away much myself these days as so busy but still get pleasure booking others and enjoy the excitement of the planning!

Luxury travel market
Well here we are almost into 2012 and I am pleased to say people are still requesting luxury holidays. I feel the past couple of years have been so tough that people feel they need a bit of pampering and although money is still tight they are booking wisely in order to get that extra bit of luxury to lift their spirits and taking a bit more time over their choices.
Using a good travel agent to do their research for them always helps and some 'aware' agents can get access to fantastic deals for their customers by watching out for them and sourcing the best deals for luxury and utilising their suppliers offers then contacting their customers when they appear in order to inform them. That is a demand I find my customers make on me rather than them booking straight away and I am more than happy to oblige.
Times are tough and it is always good to have a switched on agent looking out for you to help ensure you get that luxury you have saved hard all year for.

6-star and 7-star hotels
I think that self proclamation of status and number of stars is more hype that real. It's a form of self-advertising and promotion and a way to say 'look at us, we have the wow factor, come take a look'! . They have to be pretty good in the first place and if it's the Burj in Dubai, then it is. And I reckon it works, word of mouth and chinese whispers and soon everyone is talking about it. It worked here after all! This thread has attracted a fair number of contributors so far!

Everest Experience amid luxury
Mt. Everest, the highest mountain is no more remote. There are now ways of experiencing Sherpa land in the lap of Mt. Everest without strenious trek.
One can either do a short luxury trek for about 5 - 7 days or fly directly to corners of Mt. Everest.
Everest Luxury trek is short and eays trek with overnight stays in a luxurious hotels along the trail. These hotels have heating system, 24 hrs hot water and all other facilities at the altitude of over 3,000m. We fly to Lukla from Kathmandu and do a shot and easy trek to Namche (3,440m) staying in a luxury hotel. Everest is seen all the tiime from these luxury hotels.
The other options is even shorter. Tourists can now a days fly to Lukla and then take a Pilatus Porter to Shyangboche Airport above Namche. From there it is jut 10 mints walk to Everest View Hotel. Himalayan peaks of Khumbu Himal are seen all around including Mt.

Is it possible to do luxury on a budget?
I must agree with Paul, there are always ways and means and researching your proposed destination carefully is an important step in shedding a few of those pennies. Looking for discounts and offers or travelling just outside of the peak season are great ways to save a bit of money but still enjoy a luxurious stay.

Is luxury travel "socially irresponsible tourism"?
It is true that very often the dynamics of the economic hierarchy are often very unfair but then I would say that without the money generated not only by luxury travel but tourism in general even more people would be out of work and have not income whatsoever. What we can do is try to support sustainable and community centric tourism to help whole regions benefit fairly from the economic value that tourism brings.
