Baku, Yerevan and T'Bilisi
I'm actually looking into the best and cheapest and safest way to visit these cities, and which border crossings are the easiest to do, and which are the shorter distances. It's not easy though. Does anyone have any info on this or can direct me to some good websites?
I don't want to have to scour Thorntree just yet..

Where is the best place to visit in Turkey?
Hi,
it depends what your honeymoon should be like. If you want to relax, rest, cuddle, enjoy the lovely beaches, seas and weather, then you should consider Antalya or Bodrum. They have nice all-inclusive, luxurious but very affordable hotels.
Personally I've been several times to hotels of the World of Wonders chain. Stay clear of their Kremlin Palace though if you don't like 50% of the guests being of Russian origin.
If you want to combine culture with some nightlife, Istanbul is a great choice. It will be a bit more expensive and less relaxing, but the amount of sightseeing spots is huge: Haghia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Cisterns, Bosphorus tour, and many more palaces and mosque. For good weather ( 25+ degrees and no rain), don't come before the end of May though.
If you want some more info on Istanbul, just PM me.
Hope it helps,
Cheers..

Camel trekking
Nope - the tuareg tribesmen will make up the bulk of the party - we are merely joining them for a portion of their journey....

Iran -] Pakistan
Nat: welcome to the board. I see you've made yourself comfortable...welcome. Please put your web link in your signature file. We discourage direct emails being posted.
...aslo, keep timeframes in mind, the original poster was asking about a trip for "next summer" in December of 2006. The information you provided is helpful, but I imagine they've already made the journey..

Dress code in Iran
I've travelled through Iran a few times and as a female you do have to abide by the local laws and cover your head. To be honest, as a traveller you adapt to the rules of a country and adhere to the local dress codes anyway, so I suspect that it's a fairly ignorant traveller that would refuse to travel there because of it. In terms of safety, Iran is an incredibly safe place as crime rates are low (except for the trading of prohibited items on the black market) and nearly everywhere is safe to walk around on your own.

Has anyone travelled through Iran?
Hi there Filligen,
I'm female, 33 (and jewish!) and have travelled through Iran extensively and have had zero problems. Don't worry about your friend - she'll be absolutely fine. The Iranians are probably the friendliest people in the world and she'll be overwhelmed with kindness and hospitality. The only downside of being female and travelling through Iran is that you have to wear a headscarf at all times which can be pretty hot. Still, it's a small price to pay for the priviledge of visiting such an incredible country..

Where is it safe to travel in the Middle East?
UAE is more modern and most popular destination in the middle east region. I travelled to Dubai and Sharjh. Both cities are safe and the night life was excellent..

Terrible service from Qatar Airways
Whilst travelling out to Bahrain with qatar airways, I was downgraded into economy as I was told that business class was full. No problem, I thougt, I'll just get a refund. Well, after wasting a half day, taxi fares etc going to their office in Manamar they eventually took my ticket etc and said they'd process it through their UK office.
When I got back to the UK, their UK office said they didn't have a record and that was it. Downgraded and no refund! Needless to say I've never flown with them again.

Egypt: Hotel Laguna Vista in Sharm El Sheikh
Hi everyone! :D
I've just come back on Tuesday from staying at the Laguna Vista beach resort in Sharm El Sheikh, and I can say that it is one of the best holidays I have ever been on. :) I went with my parents, sister and little brother and there is definitely something for the whole family. There is always something to do in the evenings, with posters telling you what's on during the week- I went to see some belly dancing on Monday evening an it was really fun! The facilities are excellent and if you like sports then there are tennis courts, volleyball nets on the beach and main pool etc.
I found the staff to be so lovely and helpful, they couldn't do enough for us. As for the weather, it is guaranteed to be sunny everyday which is a nice change from England! Going in April is like the height of August temperature wise so in July it will be extremely hot but just try to keep to the shade or take advantage of the many pools or sea to cool you down.

How safe is Israel
[quote:e9a01b028f="Red Tape"]Any place is going to be risky. How many tourists have been killed in the last 6 months in Israel?? Sure, the possibility exists that something bad will happen, but what's to say you won't be in danger in other places??
You can be mugged in London, assaulted in Moscow, raped in Rome, or robbed in Rio. If you travel with this attitude that "oh its not safe!" please just stay at home.[/quote:e9a01b028f]
Surely you agree though that some countries are more dangerous than others? I mean being mugged is hardly as bad as losing a leg due to a rocket exploding near your hotel?
It's more sensible being aware of the risk, it's a bit silly going around thinking that things won't happen to you. Especially as a tourist/backpacker in an unknown place you're more vulnerable.

ATMs in Jordan
Hello All,
I am going next week to Jordan and Egypt for two weeks. We have some local currency but in a bid not to carry around lots of cash with me I was hoping to use ATMs. I am sure there are some in Amman, Dahab and Cairo, however I was wondering if anyone knew of their availablity around Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba?
Many thanks!

Arabic Courses n Yemen
Salam alaikum
i want to share with you a Damascus - Syria (and obviously Yemen!). In Damascus, you live in a complete linguistic immersion: you speak Arabic all day long. Syrian are not very strong in English speaking, so you might be lucky to be obliged to speak in every moment, situation, every place in the streets, city, shops, taxi ...
Courses are great there, i recommend their official institutes and universities and a place called Arabesk Studies Damascus (i think their email is arabesk at mail.sy ). For girls, you can live in a female syrian family, where you can practise Arabic on everyday life basis and all situations, get to know the culutre and traditions, learn about Islam and many other things.

Where in Dubai??
Lou... I've deleted two of your posts advertising a site for Dubai hotel reviews, a site that you now happen to have also included in your sig file on future posts. It's clearly one that you have some kind of association with, otherwise you would have no need to make reference to it in each of your first four posts. Please make sure you read our board rules before posting further, or you won't last long here.
Thank you,
Paul.

Dubai Photos?
Hopefully this is not a dumb or outdated question but I recently read Dubai has no taxes? There is a phenomenal amount of construction happening there. I recently received an email of some amazing photo's including an underwater hotel or restaurant, I forget which. There were about 20 pics, if you want me to forward it PM me your email address and I will send it to you. Dubai has been added to my "Places I want to visit list"
- Chris.
