Do we need to book campsites in advance?
Hi!
We were wondering whether anyone could give us some advice about camping in Southern Africa. We will be travelling by car for 3 months in Southern Africa, so not staying too long in any one place, and will be taking our own tent. We need to know whether we need to book every campsite/camping ground in advance, or if we can just turn up and stay the night?
We are looking to stay at the budget campsites where camping will only cost a small amount.
Also, if we do not book everything in advance, how easy will it be to find campsites/camping grounds along the way?
Thanks for your help! :)

Hi there
Hi, without doubt the best place for wildlife is Kenya. Why I m saying this is because first I found that Kenyans are very very friendly people and willing to to help.
I don't see the relation between the friendliness of the locals and the abundance of wildlife.
Kenya (in general, some areas are good) is overrun with tourists.
Abundance of wildlife; try Serengeti, Ngorongoro crater (predator density, but unfortunately many tourists as well), Chobe (ellies), etc....

Cheap Volunteer work in Africa
In college I did a lot of traveling with Habitat for Humanity International.
Almost every country in the developing world has projects going on. They do a nice job facilitating a safe and economical volunteer experience. I particularly enjoyed building houses in Cape Town, SA and Seoul, South Korea.
Here is their official website

Ethiopia or South Africa
I have to be honest that one of the reasons that South Africa is one of my favourite destinations, is because I love bungeejumping. They have the highest location in the world which is 216m high, located at the Garden Route..

What Vaccines do I need?
You need 3 things;
Before;
- Hepatitis shots (here in BE it's 3 shots of HepA and HepB combined)
- DTP shot (combined dyfteria, tetanus polio)
During;
- Malaria tablets. Go for Malarone, not Lariam!.

Absolute Africa - Gorillas and Game Parks - June
I'm rather envious! I would love to go on a gorilla trek - we didn't have the time on our Kenya safari, but it's high on my list for the next one (whenever that might be...!)
Make sure you come back to us to tell us all about it and make us even more jealous!.

Indian Ocean Best Resort
My wife and I stayed at Matemwe Beach on Zanzibar, and just loved it. The archetypal bright white coral -sand beaches and turquoise water, and pretty much away from any other developments.
I haven't been there, but I quite fancy the Andaman and Nicobar islands that are just east of India, but I guess they could be pretty expensive, especially getting there..

Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania -- Questions
Hi There,
I was reading through your post and it sounds like a interesting trip. I have to agree with the other posts that your budget is a bit low, especially beause you want the flights incuded.
For a month long trip it may still be more affordable to do a self drive safari from a tour operator. The tour operator will then plan the route where they know it is fairly easy to drive and any where neaded will plan guided excursions.
With your own transport you will definitely have more freedom. There are some problems with car rental though that not all car rental companies allow there cars in all the countries. A good operator will however be able to assist you with this.
Another consideration will be the type of accommodation you require and the type of car you will need. you can get better than usual rates for car rental because of the durartion of travel and I would say it is best to mix the travel accommodation up a little with a treat every now and again, but keeping the majority of accommdation to basic or camping.

Cape Town to Tanzania with a 7 year old!
Hi there,
To get the most from your time in Tanzania, it really is important to consider the logistics of getting around and the best order in which to expolore the country.
I'd recommend talking to a tour operator - there are a few really good specialists in the UK (this is my effort to NOT specifically advertise the company below - Note to Moderators: is this ok?) and given the immenent departure date, I would start planning it properly asap as Tanzania has grown tremendouly in popularity over the last couple of years - the best and most interesting camps/lodges/hotels etc tend to get booked up very quickly.
I hope you get something fabulous sorted, and have a fantastic trip!
:-).
